Rotherham Phoenix 29 Wibsey 0

Rotherham Phoenix strengthened their second place position in Yorkshire 5B with a controlled win against Wibsey. From the off the Phoenix forwards dominated and within 10 minutes a 40 yard rolling maul lead to a scoring chance being missed on the Wibsey line. The home team were in constant control during the match as the away team could offer little in responce to the Phoenix dominate pack, early in the first half another powerfull rolling maul set Andy stewart up to go crashing over for the opening try. Despite the constant supply of clean fast ball the Phoenix backs could not quite get the upper hand over the Wibsey defence, during the match several rolling mauls found themselves being mysteriously brought down near the Wibsey line, despite this tries were added by the captain Richard Westran who was a constant threat at the back of the scrum, and Pete Robinson. The backs chipped in as Simon Duke crashed over in the second half and after some excellent forward play and good vision by Alex Wirth, Duke put the in form Jon Ross in for a try in the corner. Ben Coleman chipped in with two conversions, the notable point in the game was a return from injury to the squad vice captain Tom Jenkinson, who showed no sign of rustiness after his dislocated shoulder.
