Rotherham Phoenix flew into second position in the league with an impressive first half display over Marist. Rotherham showed that they have strength in depth when they lost fly half Tom Jenkinson to a dslocated shoulder early on. The Phoenix forwards showed their power early on with some good driving mauls, and clever kicks into space by stand in fly half Jon Ross and centre Simon Duke, saw the forwards show their dominance a pick by Andy Stewart saw him being drove over the line by Scott Crookes. Ross slotted the conversion, and Phoenix went into half time with Marist failing to get on the scoreboard. The second half was a mixed affair, after an excellant start which saw Ross put Duke in, who took the ball at pace and crashed through three defenders to score. Then a clever kick by Alex Wirth and outstanding chase by Andy Stewart saw him score his second of the match, Phoenix however then went off the boil, and against the run of play let Marist come back into the game, excellant work again by Scott Crookes saw him drive the in form Pete Robinson over the line to secure the win for Phoenix. All in all a good result for Phoenix however the performance is much to be improved upon.
