Rotherham warmed up for this weekend’s league encounter against Stanley Rodillians with a ten try performance in the second round of the EDF junior vase against Cheshire side Helsby.
Phoenix struggled to get into their stride in the early stages with the effects of a two hour bus journey taking their toll, however after 20 minutes a break away try by centre Owen Swift, one of four of the day for the number thirteen, settled Roth down and this enabled them to play some enterprising rugby.
Using the width of a massive pitch both the backs and forwards combined to run in a further 9 tries with another three coming from Swift and one each for Jamie Morris, Andy Stewart, Simon Duke, John Ratcliffe, Andy Crookes and Scott Crookes.
Rotherham now look to take their decent cup form into their league fixtures with both Stanley Rodillians at Clifton Lane this Saturday kick off 3pm, and the following weeks tussle with Old Rishworthians at Bawtry road kick off 3pm.
The team are still on the look out for players of all experience, with second team fixtures also beginning on the 6th October 2007. Anyone interested should contact Brian Umpleby on 07949630898 or come along to training on Tuesdays and Thursdays under floodlights at Bawtry road cricket ground, start 6.30pm.
