Rotherham Phoenix sent a message to the rest of Yorkshire 5A with a dominating performance over the Sheffield side who currently reside in second place in the table. As the season enters it’s final stage the teams from Yorkshire 5A and 5B look to play each other once with the results being allocated to their respective points tally, at the end of the season the winners of 5A and 5B will automatically be promoted with the two runners up from each division playing for the final promotion spot. The match on Saturday saw the two current second place teams square off in what could be a dress rehearsal for the play off final. In a game which saw the outstanding Rotherham pack dominate throughout, it was case of it could have been more as three Rotherham tries were disallowed. The Sheffield team could do little to counter the power and mobility of the Rotherham pack with outstanding performances coming from every player, notable performance from prop Pete Robinson who was a constant thorn in the medics side with his bullocking runs, excellent play by Scott Crookes, himself unlucky to have a hat trick disallowed, ensured a constant stream of good clean ball from the scrums. During the first half phoenix won every contest and although the score remained relatively low it was clear that the Medics were a beaten side, hat tricks came from Andrew Stewart and Owen Swift who is rediscovering his impressive form, and in the second half Phoenix showed no mercy as they finished off the Medics team tries were added by Tom Jenkinson and Simon Duke, Ben Coleman continued his excellent kicking form with two penalties and four conversions. The seconds showed again how much they have improved as they lost out to an impressive Rawmarsh team 24 – 15.
